We covered this topic before, many moons ago, but it's worth revisiting.
We know from experience how busy and stressful life can get. It may sound silly or trivial, but sometimes, all that is required to lift your mood is a wee smile! When you smile, your brain releases tiny molecules called neuropeptides to help fight off stress. Then other neurotransmitters, such as dopamine, serotonin and endorphins come into play too. The endorphins act as a mild pain reliever, whereas the serotonin is an antidepressant. Some studies also suggest that you can even boost your mood or happiness from a fake smile! So all those times we've forced a laugh or smile at Seamie O'Kane's jokes, we've actually been doing ourselves a solid favour! Who knew, eh! It also takes more energy to frown, than it does to smile. So if you're lacking some energy coming through the gym doors, turn that frown upside down and conserve your energy for the workout!
